“19 BEFORE 2019”

We are now a week into the New Year and most of us would have managed to waste it by getting over the Christmas binge and New Year’s extravaganzas. If you didn’t KUDOS to you, you are off to a cracking start!  But, have you managed to scribble all over your mirror what it is you want to achieve this year? If not, we hope that we can inspire your year with 19 ‘goals’ to consider conquering before 2019.

Forget the unrealistic and typical goals like boosting your career, deleting Facebook, saving money and trimming the abs. While they are all great goals, where does ADVENTURE, FUN and LIVING LIFE come into the picture? Goal setting should be about enjoying yourself, laughing, making memories and buying that damn good acai bowl with extra granola without worrying about the price of it!

19 before 2019

1- BECOME A BINGE-EXPLORER, AUSSIE STYLE!

Plan short, cost effective escapes that have 5-14 day countdowns rather than the exhausting I-cannot-spend-any-money-because-I-leave-for-Europe-in-6-months countdown! Why would you want to leave your own backyard anyway? Australia has incredible places that are waiting for you to explore!

2- SEE TURTLES HATCH

From NOW to March the beaches are alive with Green Sea and Loggerhead mumma’s and their hatchlings. Take a scenic flight over to Lady Elliot Island, visit the Mon Repos Turtle Centre in Bundaberg or stalk the beaches to witness this magic of nature.

3- HAVE A BBQ AT THE PARK

Ditch the kitchen at least once a month and opt outside!

4- TAKE PART IN AN EVENT/EXPERIENCE

Perhaps you have always had a Tough Mudder event in sights? Maybe even the Kokoda Trail Papua New Guinea experience or the Oxfam Trailwalker fundraiser? Whatever it may be, choose a challenge and commit.

5- SEE MORE SUNRISES

“Life is getting up an hour early to live an hour more”. Need we say more.

6- BUY A BUMBAG

Learn to become less reliant on listening to music whilst walking/running. Stash the phone away and absorb the surroundings and listen to the sounds of the harmonizing birds and cicadas. Plus, fellow runners will get a break from your tone-deaf voice belting out hits of the 90’s.

7- GO FOR A PADDLE

And no, we don’t mean diving in to a beer tasting paddle at the local brewery. Give kayaking, surfing, SUP and canoeing a try! You might just find your hobby of 2018.

8- TAKE 3 FOR THE SEA

Every time you visit a beach or any waterway for that matter, pick up 3 pieces of rubbish. Join the movement!

9- GO BAREFOOT

Literally step back in time and take a walk barefoot. Walking barefoot was and still is one of the most primal instincts for mankind and surprisingly there are health benefits from doing so.

10- BUY A FISHING ROD

Release the inner hunter and gatherer.

11- SWIM WITH HUMPBACK WHALES

An incredible ‘once in a lifetime’ experience that will leave you in complete awe.

12- TAKE MORE PHOTOS

Personally, I would rather lose all my money over all my photographs. Photographs really are precious memories and until you start taking more you will not realise this. Become #snaphappy

13- CLIMB A TREE

Forget the fear of falling and relive one of your childhood antics.

14- 12 MOUNTAINS IN 12 MONTHS

If you are not an avid hiker but would like to be then commit yourself to one mountain a month.

15- SLEEP ON THE BEACH

There is nothing more soothing than falling asleep to the sound of the ocean.

16- TRY #ISLANDLIFE

Spend a weekend (or week) where the daily routine consists of waking up, going for a sunrise snorkel before a buffet breakfast then snorkelling some more, relaxing around the palm trees and reading that book you have been trying to finish for the past year all before watching the dolphins play in the sunset.

17- BUILD A TEEPEE

Imagination has no limits……

18- GO ON A SOLO ROAD TRIP

DJ anxiety is very real. So not having to worry about what tunes to crank is of course the #1 reason. You will also not have any back-seat drivers, you will not have to share the snacks and you will be able to go wherever you want whenever you want all while learning some self-awareness and appreciating independence.

19- HAVE FUN!!!

Because, what is a life without it?!
